Somers Town House

THE TOWN: About 30 miles north of White Plains and 55 miles north of New York City; a town of 33 square miles with a population of over 18,300; home to a large IBM campus and Pepsi headquarters, Somers is a semi-rural community located on the center northern-most edge of Westchester. It borders North Salem on the east, Lewisboro on the south, Yorktown on the west, and Carmel/Mahopac (Putnam County) on the north. It is known as the cradle of the American Circus for the travelling exotic animal menageries that were based here in the early 19th century. Its most famous landmark being the Elephant Hotel, built by Hachaliah Bailey, a colorful local farmer, and completed in 1825. Named "Elephant Hotel" in memory of Bailey's working elephant, Old Bet, the first elephant to be brought to this country. Along with the "Old Bet House", next door, it is now the Somers Town House with all its municipal government offices. Established in 1788 and named Stephentown, the town was renamed in 1808 as tribute to a young naval officer, Richard Somers.

Real Estate Tips
Real Estate Contracts >Broom Clean

Most purchase agreements contain language that requires a home to be free of trash and debris and "broom clean" at closing. While this language is not precise, the general idea is that you should convey a clean house to your buyers, one in the same condition that you hope to find your new home.

When the movers leave with your furniture, you may even want to consider hiring a professional cleaning service to thoroughly clean the home. It is crucial to leave your house as pristine as possible for the new owners. This includes getting rid of any leftover junk in the storage spaces. When the buyers show up for their final walk-through, they will feel much better about finalizing the sale if everything sparkles. This will set up a positive mood for completing the transaction and help to minimize any disputes at the closing.
